Bliss: What It Is and “Following”
“Follow your bliss, and do not be afraid.
If you follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Wherever you are — if you are following your bliss, you are enjoying that refreshment, that life within you, all the time.”
— Joseph Campbell
As I have been studying this thing called bliss for a while now, I have come to understand that there is far more to it then is commonly realized.
I suppose that is why whenever I am asked to define what bliss means, I often must choose between going on a sort of bliss rant or falling into silence.
This is more than a word. It is a New Paradigm. It is just that BIG.
Still, “what is bliss” is an important question. So let’s talk about the 2 blisses:
Your bliss (local, meaning it is personal, specific to you alone) and the BLISS of Mystery (non-local, meaning it is Universal and accessible to everyone.
Your BLISS. “Following”?
Your unique individual bliss is yours alone. It is why no one can tell you what you should do. They would be speaking from their bliss, not yours.
It quite literally is what fuels your Inner Fire. It is what lights you up.
Bliss is what you feel in your bones as Truth, as Freedom.
It’s the feeling you have when you are in your flow.
When you are experiencing times of fulfillment and peace and joy and profound gladness to be alive.
When you feel as connected to All That Is as you do to yourself.
Your little self and your big soul Self are happily aligned.
Your heart and head have paired up and are singing in harmony. No discord or inner conflict anywhere around.
It’s beautiful. You are beautiful. And charismatic. And creative. And loving. And fearless. And perfectly unique.
When you are living and working from your bliss, you are fully funded to live the life that was meant for you and to offer up your own Great Work.
You are honoring Nature and your own unique special nature.
You know you belong here now and that there is something special and purposeful in your being here.
You are clear, focused, energized, courageous and creative.
That’s what Joseph Campbell meant by follow your bliss.
It’s a very appealing idea, is it not?
But there is something more—much more–that beckon us.
Moyers: “Do you ever have this sense when you are following your bliss, as I have at moments, of being helped by hidden hands?”
Campbell: “All the time. It is miraculous. I even have a superstition that has grown on me as the result of invisible hands coming all the time….When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors for you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.”
From: The Power of Myth, Bill Moyers, Joseph Campbell
Those “invisible hands” are intriguing. Yes?
You have encountered them. I have too.
It’s Carl Jung’s concept of “synchronicity.”
“Synchronicity” refers to “meaningful coincidences.” Events that are not related by the principle of cause and effect, but that are connected by meaning. It was his attempt to explain paranormal events, such as ESP.
Those “invisible hands” are the stuff Abraham-Hicks is talking about in describing the principles of The Law of Attraction.
We want to have invisible hands helping us. We need those invisible hands.
And that is exactly what non-local BLISS does for us. It’s those invisible hands and more. Much, much more.
Connecting with Infinite Intelligence.
Love without conditions or limitations.
Pure, positive energy.
Transcendence infusing us with entirely fresh material.
Miraculous new perspective and surprising solutions.
We suddenly have access to the Divine. To Grace.
Transformation is no longer an abstract concept.
Possibilities and new solutions, fresh ideas suddenly appear that were not there before.
So it happens that “doors open where there were only walls before.”
Here’s the Deal…..
You can follow your bliss. You can live and love and work tuned into your bliss, your special nature. And the more you practice, the better you get at it.
The deal is, though, it takes a little “know how.”
People abandon The Law of Attraction because they don’t get the details right. Usually because they are still operating out of fear rather than love.
People dismiss the notion of “following their bliss” because—intriguing as it sounds, it seems too abstract, impractical, beyond “the norm.” Basically, they don’t have basic information about “How to.”
BLISS—as is experiencing little brushes with The Divine—happens by Grace. Which means that we can’t force it—that isn’t the way BLISS works.
But we can invite, allow, and create the conditions by which we momentarily experience union with the Sacred Energy. And a little goes a long, long way. This I know for certain.
The purpose of Inner Fire Coaching is to support you in your own bliss adventure. The School of Practical Mystery is where we will explore practical “how to” ways of engaging with The Mystery.
